Wegovy® Pill (oral semaglutide)
Why the Wegovy® pill
Four reasons patients choose the tablet.
Figures are trial averages · individual results vary
At the 25mg daily dose over 64 weeks in the OASIS 4 trial, among participants who stayed on treatment as prescribed. Across all participants, including those who stopped early, the average was 13.6%.
Needle-free weight loss treatment
Clinically proven semaglutide in a tablet you swallow. No pens, no needles, no injection-site reactions — a proven option for anyone who would rather not inject.
One daily pill, taken each morning
Taken first thing on an empty stomach with a sip of water, then wait 30 minutes before eating or drinking. A simple routine that becomes second nature within days.
No fridge required, store at room temperature
Stored at room temperature in its original blister pack. Easy to keep at home, in a bag or when travelling — no cold chain to manage.
How it works
Wegovy® is a weight-management treatment for adults living with obesity, or overweight with a weight-related health condition. It works with your body’s own appetite signals to reduce hunger and help you eat less.
Semaglutide is a GLP-1 receptor agonist — it mimics a natural gut hormone released after eating. It acts on appetite centres in the brain to increase fullness and reduce cravings, and slows how quickly the stomach empties. The result: you feel satisfied with smaller portions. Taken once daily, alongside a reduced-calorie diet and more physical activity.

Reduces appetite
Acts on the brain’s appetite centres so you feel full sooner.
Slows stomach emptying
Food stays in your stomach longer, helping fullness last.
Once daily, no needle
One tablet each morning on an empty stomach with plain water.
Is Wegovy® right for you?
Wegovy® is a prescription weight-management medicine, used alongside diet and exercise — not a quick fix. A quick check before you start your consultation.
Check your eligibility- ✓ You are an adult (18+) living in the UK.
- ✓ Your BMI is 30 or above — or 27+ with a weight-related condition such as high blood pressure or type 2 diabetes.
- ✓ You are ready to make diet and activity changes alongside treatment.
Your dosing journey
A gradual build-up, exactly as licensed.
The Wegovy® pill starts at 1.5mg once daily and increases in steps, with a minimum of one month at each dose level. This gradual build-up gives your body time to adjust and keeps side effects manageable. Most patients reach the 25mg maintenance dose at around three months, and your prescriber can hold you at a lower dose for longer if that suits you better.
Each tablet is taken first thing in the morning on an empty stomach with no more than 120ml of plain water, then at least 30 minutes before eating, drinking anything else or taking other medicines. Doses are only increased if you are tolerating treatment well. The schedule follows the UK Summary of Product Characteristics.
The clinical evidence
What the OASIS 4 trial showed
In the Phase 3 OASIS 4 trial, adults with overweight or obesity who took the 25mg Wegovy tablet once daily alongside lifestyle changes lost an average of 16.6% of their body weight over 64 weeks while on treatment as prescribed, compared with 2.7% on placebo.

Wegovy® tablet vs placebo
Both groups followed the same reduced-calorie diet and activity plan — only the active medicine differed.
Placebo + lifestyle
lost
Wegovy® tablets + lifestyle
lost
That’s around 6× more weight lost than diet and exercise alone — for someone weighing 100kg, roughly 16–17kg on average.

Safety at a glance
Semaglutide has one of the best-documented safety records of any weight-loss medicine, built on more than a decade of clinical use. Most side effects are gastrointestinal, mild to moderate, and ease as your body adjusts to each dose. For a full list of side effects, please see the patient information leaflet.
Eat smaller, lower-fat meals and stay well hydrated to ease nausea, which usually settles within a few weeks of each dose change. Wegovy must not be used in pregnancy and should be stopped at least two months before trying to conceive. Seek urgent medical help for severe or persistent abdominal pain, ongoing vomiting or signs of dehydration. Your medical history and current medicines are always reviewed by a prescriber before treatment begins.
Report a side effect. You can report any suspected side effect from any medicine directly to the MHRA Yellow Card scheme.
